Tramp Art, like quilting, relies on using salvaged materials to create textures and patterns and then piecing them together to make beautiful yet utilitarian objects. While relatively unknown, Tramp Art was a wide-spread form of folk art that flourished in America between the 1870’s – 1940’s.

Using simple tools and cigar boxes or discarded shipping crates the artist would chip-carve and layer wooden shapes and apply them to frames, boxes, sewing caddies and even full-sized furniture to create some simple and some extremely elaborate pieces.

Many of those who created this work were skilled craftspeople who devoted their time and energy to pursuing their passion for creativity.

Like these craftspeople, I use very simple tools, cigar boxes, wood and vintage objects to create my Tramp Art, all in pursuit of my own passion for creativity.
