This piece is VERY special to me! The pattern was made from a tracing I did of my mother's hand many years ago. I had told her that when I found it in myself to follow my dreams and become a folk artist I would create a Heart In Hand piece for her. She passed a few years ago and so this piece is made to honor her knowing she is very much a part of my dream becoming reality. $ 195.00 This piece is made from approximately 23 pieces of hand-cut and carved wood. The finish is either a custom mixed stain or a painted finish. I will use antique Victorian Mother of Pearl carved buttons as an accent at the wrist if you desire depending on availability. I make these pieces when time permits or as I get a request for one. The pin-cushion is handmade from hand-dyed velvet and is filled with sawdust. It is attached at the base of the chip-carved heart with silk ribbon so that it can dangle off the edge of the thread holder. This is an open ended edition and therefore NOT a one-of-a-kind piece. However, each piece is handmade to order and no two will ever be exactly alike. I have also started making this piece using curly maple. I use a thinner wood which allows me to still hand cut every piece. It just means I cut twice as many pieces as would be used in the original piece. By nature each piece of curly maple will have a different amount of figuring. I am asking $225.00 for this piece done in curly maple. |
